Sao Paulo roundup blog :)

Hey guys.

Well, what a race that was!!!

Didn’t get much during the day, as I was at mums all day, but as promised, here is your race day recap 😊

FP2:

Edo Mortara stopped on track. Was reportedly a system issue, but the replays looked like the driveshaft failed.

Mitch reported drive shaft issues at the start of the session. Finished last. Exactly the same as what happened to him 12 months ago. We all know what happened next… :)

Sam P1 🥳🥳🥳. About time Sam had some good luck. His season so far was DNF P4 DNF. What was to follow made me super emotional. But we’ll get to that later.

Had to watch the session in McDonalds lol. But that shows my commitment to this sport, and that will never waiver. Even when my favourite drivers do leave the sport.

Qualifying in Sao Paolo proved yet again to be a tricky one. Some cars got caught up in traffic jams, others accidentally took the flag before final laps were scheduled to be completed, it was a typical formula e session. I ended up watching Qualifying on the bus, as I was en route to mums to watch the ePrix with her later on in the afternoon. Sam was through literally by the skin of his teeth, and mum and I couldn’t help but celebrate.  Even if we did get weird looks from members of the public…

So anyway.

Then on to the duels:

Pascal then got pole by 0.002 seconds. The second closest margin in Formula e history. The 1st time this season he would be starting from pole.

On to the race itself.

Like in Portland last year, no one wanted to lead the race. It, once again, was very peloton style, with the lead yoyoing between cars. Some cars would only drop 1-2 places when taking their attack mode, others would lose out biiiiiiig time with the misfortunes of Safety Cars and yellow flags being thrown at the wrong time, or teams miscalculating position drops.  The prime example being Sebastien Buemi, who lost 5 places when Envision only forecast 1-2. He vented his frustration over team radio, and did not sound happy at all… suppose I wouldn’t be either to be fair.

At the end of the ePrix, the last lap was quite possibly one of the most frantic last laps ever, Mitch Evans was struggling with his energy, and battery temperatures, and had Sam Bird all over the back of him. With two turns to go, Sam made the most amazing move around the outside of Mitch to claim the ePrix win. McLarens first in Formula e, and first since 2022 in all motorsports McLaren compete in (not counting Piastri’s sprint win in Qatar last year), and Sams first win since New York 2021. Not going to lie, I was in floods of tears. Sam had had a tough few years at Jaguar, and to see him finally win a race, after so long without a win, and Laney [Stephen Lane] as his engineer again having had two seasons together at envision in Season 5 and 6; it was special. That’s one certain thing!!  Also, it was so nice to see laney go on to the podium and get the trophy for McLaren. It isn’t just the driver who goes out there and gets awesome results, it truly is a team effort, and its nice to see everyone doing well. The race win came as a very big surprise to me, but Sam deserved it more than anyone if I’m being completely honest. The way he controlled the race at times, and performed, quite possibly the overtake of formula e history, it merited the win in my eyes, and I am very happy for Sam and McLaren.

I’m gonna finish off this race round up as usual, with race round up, and championship standings
