Misano round up, with a little surprise at the end

Hey guys. apologies that this is late :(. Been busy with other things. However, as it was a double fe bar week this week, I have a little surprise at the end of this blog

  • Rookie fp0 in Misano. This will be held instead of the shakedown session on Friday before FP1. Will be streamed on the fe YouTube. 14:30 local time.

  • Drivers:

  • ABT  Tim Tramnitz

  • Andretti Zane Maloney

  • Ds Penske Robert Shwartzman

  • Envision Paul Aron

  • ERT Mikel Azcona

  • Jaguar Sheldon Van Der Linde.

  • Mahindra Jordan King

  • Maserati Yann Ehrlacher

  • McLaren Taylor Barnard

  • Nissan Caio Collet

  • Porsche Matt Campbell

 Team reserve drivers.

  • Fe unfortunately confirmed last week  that the NXT GEN Cup will not be supporting any European races this year due to “logistical issues”

This is a real shame, as I was looking forward to London and the first support series since the iPace e trophy in 2020. But you know. These things happen, and I’m glad it is being looked at to continue from season 11 and beyond.

  • Silverstone set to host the “British ePrix” from next season. Not many drivers approve, and tbh I don’t either… [ as per the race and Sam smith. ]

  • Paul Aron and Joel Erickson have been confirmed for Envision at the Berlin ePrix next month as robin and Seb can’t compete after a WEC clash during the Saturday race.

I'm excited about Paul getting the drive for envision as he is looking very good in f2 atm, as he currently sits second in the championship, and has had some very strong results.

  • Mahindra have also announced Jordan King to deputise for De Vries.

Fe notebook:

  • McLaren admitted that the steering wheel issues Sam faced in Tokyo were a result of human error and nothing more.

  • Jeff Dodds is feeling optimistic about the Misano weekend.

  • Draft Season 11 calendar to be submitted to the WMSC council for approval during the June sitting of the committee.

Sao Paulo is set to open the season in December, with the possibility of Silverstone taking over the ExCel slot due to the ExCel construction works shortening the length and width of the carpark, and making the track nonworkable.

  • Aitken was announced for the FP0, but has been ruled out due to an iMSA clash in May, Aron to take his seat for Berlin and the FP0 Event.

Was a great lap from Taylor to go fastest. Sheldon, unfortunately, couldn’t get a representative lap time in due to issues with Nicks car.

Reserve drive

FP1 notes:

I did write some down however these got lost as I had them in my notebook and left it on the bus… so sorry about that…

FP2 notes:

Yellow flag 20 Ish mins to go. Sette camara stopped with  suspected PT issues

  • Buemi top 1:19.123 19 minutes to go

  • Red flag for sette camara’s issues. Had to be towed back to the pits.

This caused the session to be extended by 5 minutes, as the car took longer than expected to be recovered.

 Race 1:

So many overtakes I couldn’t keep up !!!!!

Think this has to be the formula e race with the most overtakes in FE history. It was insano in the membrano.

Cass stopped with suspected powertrain issues

Pit lane had to be closed for a few laps but was eventually opened again.

Really unfortunate for Nick, as I know he was on a really good run of form until recently.

I think it was more than likely a suspected powertrain issue on the Jaguar, as was the case in Rookie FP on Friday with Sheldon Van der Linde.

Sam retired due to contact with Jehan Daruvala, which caused a puncture and Sams eventual retirement from the race with suspected  suspension damage, however it could also have been that he was a lap down (again…) and the team would rather him retire than take the flag. However, I am not Stephen Lane, or Ian James, so it’ll just have to be left as is.

DAC took the win on the road, but was disqualified due to having an out of date damper spring fitted. Now, I know rules are rules, but this was so unfair for DAC and Porsche. To  be disqualified after the race is unfair as it is, but 5 hours after… but you know… I am not the FIA…

Now. On to race 2.

FP3

Pretty uneventful session

Only thing was that De Vries briefly stopped on track.

Did bring out  a yellow flag, but it was only brief as he managed to get going again. Could have been system related, but with a swift reboot it was resolved again.

Another stormer of a lap from Jake, who took pole with a 1:17.610. this being 4 tenths faster than JEV who set a 1:18.020. this was Jakes 3rd career pole, and his first of the season.

Stoffel

Being an envision fan, this double dnf was painful… to say the least. Both were retired with suspected damage from crashes, with Robin finishing his race in the barriers after a crash with I think it was JEV. Watched the race at work, and it was an amazing finish with Cass taking the last spot on the podium by 2 tenths of a second. Heartbreaking for ABT, but it was so awesome to see ABT fighting for podium places again 😊 .

Jake H started on pole, clean lap 1.

Very rare it is at the moment to have a clean lap 1, however all cars made it through unscathed.

Oli Rowland :( very unfortunate to run out of energy on the last lap :(.

Ended up almost crying at work. Nissan had miscalculated the energy due to a manual recalculation on the grid, and when oli ran out of energy, Nissan had no idea what had happened, or what went wrong in the race, but all 4 Nissan powered cars have looked very strong this season.

Pascal won the race for Porsche, with a kind of Porsche 1-2, as Dennis finished in 2nd place and Andretti use Porsche Powertrains.

Finally, I’ll leave you with the championship standings, both race results and one question, but before I do, I had the awesome opportunity yesterday  to speak to Jeff Dodds about the paywall situation in the uk, and the million dollar question. Is this the way formula e should go in terms of viewership, or can FTA and paid exist together?

To summarise what he said:

FTA and Paid together in coexistence is not as easy as people think. TNT are committed to Formula E long term and if the two [FTA and Paid broadcasting] were to coexist together, then could FE find an FTA Company that cares about Formula E, and be invested in the formula e broadcast as a broadcast, and a sport?  TNT have meetings with Formula E, and  basically discuss how can we, as a sport make the broadcasting better, for the fans and TNT as a broadcaster.

He also agreed that pineapple belonged on pizza which I also agreed with.

Now on to the question I didn’t ask Jeff,

If the FIA allow this style of racing to go on any longer, how long will it be before a huge crash occurs?

Cause i am very afraid that it'll be that way if the fia continue to have their way.

Misano Race 1 results [subject to the outcome of Porsche’s appeal]. Yes Porsche have appealed.
