Happy race week guys😊.
This weekend formula e makes its first visit to the Japanese capital, with the inaugural Tokyo ePrix.
No significant news broke around penalties as such, but this morning The Race reported that Lola are expecting to join the series as a manufacturer next season. Now it is unclear whether it is as a 12th team, or whether they are going to do what McLaren did to the Mercedes team and take over a team. What is to be clear though is that this is a big move, and it will mark 13 years since Lola last raced in any form of motorsport, as they are set to enter next year [season 11, 2024/25] .
Last time out, Sam Bird won the Sao Paulo ePrix, with an amazing and well executed pass on Mitch Evans at the penultimate corner of the ePrix. That move, for me , has to be one of the overtakes of formula e history. He won for the first time in 2 and a half years, and had a bet with his engineer Stephen “Laney” Lane that if Sam were to win, he [Laney] would have to die his hair blonde instead of his brown hair. Lets just say, it happened so it had to happen if you know what I mean. However, Laney, if you by chance end up reading this, a bet is a bet my friend!! Sam was joined on the podium by his former teammate Mitch Evans, and Oliver Rowland, who got there with an awesome last lap lunge on Jake Dennis and Pascal Wehrlein. Overtook both cars on the final corner!! That would mean that Oliver would stand on the “Flodium” for the 2nd time in as many races. McLaren got Laney up on the podium to get the teams winners trophy, which further iterates that it isn’t just a driver going around in circles, it’s the team of 20 engineers, team personnel and mechanics that work day in day out to ensure that the car can run smoothly, and efficiently, to ensure the best results possible.
Attack mode this weekend is going to be around the Turn 4 area, and I think the track looks like a horse. Mum seems to think reindeer, but its definitely a horse… it looks like a fun track to drive however, so I am excited. The drivers are saying this track feels very much like Rome, and it kind of looks like it too. I'm excited for this. Especially if we get another Sam Bird win!!!!!
Predictions going in to this weekend were hard to think of at first, but here we go:
Podium I think will be as follows:
Bird
Cassidy
Hughes
Would be awesome for Sam to have a double win, but I think it is going to be close, as we know nick has been quick in Japan in other formulas. To see a double McLaren podium at Nissan’s home race with Rowland joining them too would just be amazing, and awesome at the same time.
