Hey guys!!
So, with a month to go until the first race of the Season 6 Calendar, I thought I would share with you guys why I started to watch Formula E, and also throw in some technical facts for you guys :).
So, why did I start watching one of the most tense series on the planet?
The cars are all electric, which means that they do not emit anything, and are very Eco-friendly and good for the environment. This I feel is important, as if there are too many ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) championships, then we'll be inevitably adding more and more CO2 to the atmosphere, which wouldn't be good. Also, watching Formula E, has made me more aware of what is going on in the world with regards to climate change, and also made me participate in my first Earth Hour this year.
The races are run in city centres where pollution is seen to be a big problem. This season, Formula E is coming back to my home country, and since that announcement, the UK government have said that the UK will be at net zero emissions by 2050. I feel like Formula E is the platform to talk about change, and what can be done to not make the planet go kaboom in the next 10 years.
Teams wise, I support Envision Virgin Racing, DS Techeetah and Mahindra Racing. Envision Virgin and Venturi are the two customer teams on the grid this season. EVR being supplied by Audi and Venturi being supplied by Mercedes.
Now, on to the technicalities of the Gen 2 Car.
0-100 kph in 2.8 seconds. Sounds quick I know!!
The Car is running at 900 V and also the battery can store 52 KWh in 1 charge.(double what the Gen 1 car could facilitate)
As of this season, every minute under a caution period (Full Course Yellow and Safety Car) or a Red Flag will result in 1 KWh being deducted from the overall energy in the battery. The teams have the battery and chassis supplied to them, but they have free reign to design the powertrain components.
Also, this season Attack Mode has changed. Now instead of 225 kw, it has been increased to 235 kw. This is a good thing I feel, as it'll aid more overtaking, and also it will help teams get valuable points for their championship campaign.
with regards to qualifying set up, this season it will still be 250 kw.
Can't wait for Season 6.
