London 2022. What a weekend

Writer's picture: Natalie MartinNatalie Martin

Hey guys! Sorry for the long gap between blog posts. Just been busy and havent had time for race reviews and stuff like that. Over the weekend, i went to London for the Formula E, and boy, it didn't disappoint whatsoever. Jake winning again at home and me getting my chance to shine (more on that later). It was a great weekend with a great bunch of people. Finally got to get to go down to envision as well, as the pitlane was open for the autograph session. On to race 1. Jake Dennis was on pole, with Stoffel Vandoorne next to him in P2. The atmosphere when Jake crossed the line to take pole, was one of the greatest atmospheres i've heard ever. I was inside on the Sunday in the grandstands, and the roar from the crowd when he'd done it again was just fabulous. Home crowd getting behind the home hero. Anyway, back to race 1, and my little claim to fame. As FE had delayed the tickets i was promised, they said, as an apology for the delay, i could go up on to the podium and present the winners champagne. This was a huge offer for me, as i had never got to do something like that before, never mind at my home ePrix. So with 20 minutes to go, i went, accompanied by mum and Alex from FE, to the back of the podium. Jake won the race, and the roar from the crowd was just something else. I felt so happy too, as Nuneaton isn't that far from where I live. A home boy winning his home eprix!!! You couldn't have written a better script. When his car came down victory lane behind the garages, with all the pyrotechnics going off, i just couldn't help but smile and cheer for him. Hes won London again !!! Before the podium ceremony officially got underway, i had a selfie with stoffel and spoke briefly with all three drivers. It was such an awesome experience, and if id had said no, which luckily i didn't, i would have kicked myself in the teeth. Then the big moment came. I was so glad i didn't drop the bottle, and jake was so happy to have won his home race. We saw Jack after the race too, before we went to Greenwich for dinner. He was so nice and he even signed my fe hat. To top the day off, Nick signed his kiwi flag i made for him, and said how nice it was. I met some of the team for the first time, and my friend got a front wheel cover signed by Robin, Nick and Tom Blomqvist.

Jake won his quarter final, and they showed me and mum celebrating the fact that Jake may get his 2nd pole of the weekend. He did and the whole place erupted in to cheers. The race itsself was exciting too. Unfortunately both nick and mitch had to retire from the race due to issues that were out of their control. I saw Tower after the race and asked what happened. "hey!! What happened to nick?" "he had a puncture at the start of the race..." "fuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!". Mitch suffered with an inverter issue that caused him to stop on track. Luckily he got going again, but he had to retire the car. Sam broke his wrist in a lap 1 tangle up, but like the soldier he is, he made it to the end of the race without retiring. I saw him post race, and he was in a half cast. Between you and me, seoul is looking very doubtful for him, but until Jaguar release another statement, i am just gonna stay calm. Nato and fenetraz are Jaguars reserve drivers, and with Norman's FE experience, i think he'll get the drive if Sam is unfit. But as i said earlier, i am waiting for further statements from Jag next week. Post race on the Sunday, unfortunately, i had two panic attacks whist waiting for Fab, Andre's race engineer. When he came out after garage pack up, he noticed me and came to ask what was up. This made me feel tonnes better, as i felt like i cold just get it all out. So massive shoutout to Fab for staying until he knew that i was ok, and also Christina, Mitch's Performance Engineer, for stopping as well to see if i was ok. . The post race McDonalds was so good, even though we didnt get to Greenwich till around 10pm. Conveniently, it was just across the road from the DLR station, so we didnt have to walk far. I didn't want the weekend to end. It was so good. Post race on the Saturday, I booked to go to Zizzis in Greenwich. The seats we got were amazing, right overlooking Greenwich Pier, and the river boats coming and going. Then, on the Monday, we went to the sealife centre, and had a blast there as well. Almost left my jaguar hat at the chip shop, but it now has a place on my wall. So yeah To round off this post, i had an amazing weekend with some amazing people.

Be yourself. Cause everybody's getting dizzy kinda busy being someone else :) Nat Socials down below
