Happy new year everyone !!Unfortunately on the 23rd December, I got the phone call from NHS Track and Trace that I had tested positive for Covid. This came as a shock to me as I was asymptomatic yesterday (22/12) when I had my test done at work. So I though it would be a good idea to blog my thoughts and feelings to show you how it is being locked away. So 23/12 was a little bit meh. I can hand on heart say that was one of the most awkward days of my life. I had to be to my line manager in absolute tears, cause it did come as a total shock to me, “I’ve tested positive for Covid. I need to go home.” My grandma wasn’t impressed either but she rarely is …. When I got home it was straight in to isolation. Straight in to seeing no one but my grandma grandad and sisters (Caitlyn and Megan) for 10 days. Christmas Eve and day followed. The two hardest days of my life. Both physically and mentally. Seeing no one I wanted to hurt. It really did. The presents I had were cool though. I got a new phone, a case for the phone with robin and nick on it. Kevin the carrot family, a new mug and a few bits and pieces off my uncle Mark and Auntie Sue. Money and loads of clothes and cool stuff. My phone was the 2020 iPhone SE so it feels kind of cool to have a phone during it’s first year of release. For those asking I got the product red one. We had turkey for dinner and pork cobs for tea. Boxing Day followed that. Beef roast followed a massively long video call with mum and watching Hamilton. Then in the evening, we had a family zoom quiz with my cousin Carolyn and a few other Thomas family members. It was competitive and fun. We got 27. The day after that which was the 27th, consisted of Hamilton brunch and doodling whilst watching YouTube and playing on animal crossing. The dinner was cold cuts (ham turkey and beef). Work stupidly texted me so I got my grandad to leave a message. On the 28th they rang and said I could go back on Sunday which I found great cause not only am I back at work, but they are paying me Covid sick pay too. Which I found extortionate. Anyway. That happened. And we had a family game of skribbl. I found skribbl thanks to the quadrant YouTube page playing it before Christmas. It looked fun and really is. I played animal crossing on my switch and generally had another chill day and at the time of writing this, forgot what was for dinner … 🤦♀️🤦♀️. On the 29th, work emailed my wage slip which wasn’t too bad in terms of money tbh. Not disclosing my wage in my blog but yeah. Tbh it wasn’t too bad. I played some more skribbl with my sisters and had a general chill day listening to music whilst playing on my switch. On the 30th, I had another video call with my mum, who was very boisterous like she always is tbf lol. Had another day on EVR Fans, watched some YouTube and had food. Now, on to New Years eve. The funnest isolation day. At a distance, I played heads up with the family. I got 7 on one round. I felt quite accomplished at that tbh. We had another family game of skribbl, and I had a nice long chat with Emily. For those of you who don’t know, Emily is my half sister who lives with her dad in Wolverhampton. We don’t see her regularly atm due to tiered restrictions and complications I’m not going in to, but when she comes around, it’s generally a good vibe. Had another long phone call with mum too. She was supposed to be coming over for Christmas, but Covid put a firm stopper in the bottle as the saying goes. We had steak for dinner followed by nibbles and champagne. I went in to the new year with a glass of beer, as opposed to champagne, as I fancied a beer around 11pm and didn’t finish it in time. I don’t do the laddy downing it in one. Then the countdown began to 2021. To the last day of self isolation. To a year where hopefully vaccination for Covid will be rolled out. To all my fellow key workers who work day in day out to provide the goods and services to keep the nation rolling. I thank you, and I applaud you. Thanks to you, the kids are being educated, the sick are being cared for, the goods keep on rolling, the essentials can still be provided, blood can still go to people who need it, plasma can go towards Covid trials. I could go on about how much I value our NHS and essential workers. With me being one of them working in a warehouse for hobbycraft specialising in e commerce (online orders). It’s hard some days for me, but with the right people and frame of mind, I’ve stuck a big fat middle finger up at 2020, and I’ll tell you what. GOOD BLOODY RIDDANCE. I’m writing this with 27 minutes of self isolation left and I’m going out for a walk tomorrow. Thanks but fuck you 2020 and Covid.
