THIS BLOG DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!!! DO NOT READ ON IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET AND ARE PLANNING TO. (dont say I didnt warn you !) As a formula E fan, i was waiting ages for this documentary, and boy, it didnt fail to enlighten me at all. And we go green in a nutshell, follows 5 drivers through the Season 4 campaign, and shows raw emotions, and unfiltered radio. It was on very late over here in the uk, so I had to buy a red bull to stay up for it. In my opinion, it is an amazing documentary, and has the insights of not only one of the best Formula E journalists i know, but also a good friend of mine. Hazel made the documentary very interesting, and added the layer of knowledge that it needed. It also had very good editing, and the emotions of some of the teams that were involved as well. When you think of documentaries to do with racing, you instatly think Drive to Survive, but this is a whole step up on that, its only a hour ish long in length, but its so worth the watch. Every single bit of emotion the drivers show off and on the track is portrayed so well and so precisely. When JEV was talking about Jules Bianchi, that made me a little bit emotional. Not gonna lie. The fact he had to walk away from the camera cause he couldnt talk about it... Wow. That made me a little bit emosh. Not gonna lie to you about that one. Then the last race weekend of the season, when sam lost out on the championship to JEV, they went in the intercom after the race, and sam looked so upset. Writing this now, i am almost replicating what I did on Tuesday night. It just set me off crying. I know how much effort goes in to race weekends, from a team and driver perspective, and seeing Sam like that really touched me. He lost out on second to Lucas by 1 point that season as well. Just seeing the raw emotion displayed by Sam that day, you knew how much it meant to him. To this day he hasn't won a championship, and last season was the only season where mathematically, he hasnt had a chance of winning it. Anyway, back to the plot. The only thing i thought that could have been better, was a little bit more race footage of the races. That, i feel, would have showed more about the on track rivalries between drivers, and also shown more of the on track fights. Especially the championship fight in New York. But anyway!! Thats the only bad thing tbh, so yeah. Overall, And We Go Green is one of the most amazing documentaries I have watched EVER!!!!! It was worth the red bull that kept me awake until 3am. It was worth staying up for. It was worth the tears. It was worth the smiles. The editing is fabulous, and the drivers and media people that were in it were as well. Special mention to Diane, Sam's mum. She managed to send me a signed cap before Sam went to Toronto for the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) last year. We follow each other on twitter, and she is always up for a nice chat, no matter what time it is, or what mood I am in. She always makes my day. So basically:
I recommend this to anyone who loves formula e
It is so good i would happily watch it again and again and again
Watch this if you can. You will not want to miss it :)
